How many versions of your homepage are there?

It was recently pointed out to me that our homepage had four viable versions. These were:

www.somedomain.com
somedomain.com
www.somedomain.com/index.php
somedomain.com/index.php

Whilst this might not seem to be a great problem it can be as Google thinks they are four different pages. This could cause duplicate content issues and water down the rank of our homepage.

Some quick work to our .htaccess file sorted the problem.

It’s best to have one version of your homepage.

How do you check if your site has canonicals , we have http://www.betgizmo.com, but am not sure how to find or limit canonicals.

You have. Add /index.php to your homepage to see one.

    Hi,

    My .htaccess shows:

    Redirect 301 /index.html http://www.mysite.com/store/osc/index.php

    Shall I change this?

    Thanks!

Clean simple URL’s are better. Your homepage would be best as http://www.mysite.com and a product page as http://www.mysite.com/blue-widgets
