I've stopped working with clients on the same basis. They don't understand the value of the work that we focus for them. We create an action plan in such a way that they can take a social approach to creating Real relationships with the website they contact for linking, not just an exchange. I have a client in the eco industry that is gaining auxiliary sales for his products because of our targeted approach to his link building efforts. The key with the mirror is when you look into it, it's yourself looking back at you....the work must be put in and it must be consistent. Action plans are only as good as the action taken.

BTW, just found your blog, I love your real candid approach to blogging about SEO and I agree with your vision. I will stay up on your news and articles, Keep them coming! I agree that a consultant must be selective with clients that understand the grind ahead of them

Would very much agree with that. I have just lost a client because I won't indulge them in their fantasies that they can be page one for every single terms their site could possibly come up with. Being honest in this game reduces your client base.

Like you say, most people want the highest quality solutions, but are not prepared to lift a finger. Without a gigantic budget to get professionals to invest time in your site in your stead, you are not going to get far.
