F##k Me They Are Still Out There!
I received an unsolicited email today with some real gems in it. The guy, a SENIOR Search Consultant no less, gave me some pointers on where we are going wrong with our website.
Apparently “Your website has 3950 back-links, meaning it’s not very popular“. Actually it has 455,000 but anyway, and “Right now your site has a Google Pagerank score of 6/10, which is probably one of the main reasons why your site isn’t showing up in the first page of the search results.” Actually it’s 7 but hey what’s one between friends but it was good to find out that this was the reason our site isn’t ranking……
The fact that these clueless morons are still doing the rounds no doubt fleecing decent honest, if confused, people makes me want to weep.

Yeah, one of these morons managed to fleece around $500 per month of one of my customers over an extended period of time until I explained that they were being badly screwed … they could never work out why they still weren’t in the number #1 position on google.

My mum works at an independent school and she regularly sends me these types of email though she gets asking me what I think.
One of the best ones was a company who were offering search engine rankings by making them a new site and that was all that was to it. Took a look at their site and it wasn’t even indexed in Google.
From my experience these sort of things are rife. There was a company near me that was closed down for fraud after swindling £50K from someone to invest in their 8,000,000 unique visits a year site that had an AlexaRank of less than 3 mil.

That’s funny yet sad at the same time. I frequently get the same types of emails even though my site ranks in the top 10 (just like yours) for quite a few phrases and has a lot of relevant back-links.
It’s good to know why we don’t rank well though, isn’t it? LOL
