Another SEO Review Snippet
I’m going to post more snippets from SEO reviews I carry out as I think they will be helpful to other site owners who are serious about making their websites work for their business.
I’ll always remove sensitive info and only post new thoughts. Here’s the latest.
Fred,
Google tries to serve up the most relevant pages relating to a users search. I’m sure you knew that. Google’s software ‘decides’ this by evaluating the relevance of your content in relation to the search, hence the importance of getting your site content fully optimised, and the overall importance of your site in relation to others.
It measures the importance of your site compared to others by evaluating the links pointing at your site. If sites that Google trust link to you then they pass on some of that trust and the cumulative effect of this can be measured by your site’s pages Pagerank. For example your homepage has a Pagerank of 1 (it’s a scale from 1 to 10).
I hope you are with me so far.
The search phrases you want to rank for, xxxx xxxx and xxxxx xxxx’s, are very competitive, that is to say there are thousands of pages in the Google UK index optimised for those phrases meaning there’s lots of competition to rank on page one for them.
Unfortunately for you your site is quite new, about a year old, has very few quality links and is therefore not trusted by Google.
To rectify this you can ensure your pages are fully optimised, see the links below, and work on securing quality links in order to build your site’s reputation.
Further to this you might consider working on ranking for some different search phrases that are not so competitive, that is to say phrases that not so many other pages are trying to rank for. Sure they don’t get the same traffic as xxxx and xxxxx but the cumulative effect of chasing other phrases can be surprising.

I often find that this approach leads to not hearing back from them.
It is difficult to communicate to people who want SEO that if they have a new site that they are going to be up against sites that have many years head start on them and that by catching up with them you are expecting to be able to out-do what they have done or come naturally in a short period of time. They just want to hear, “Yes. We can get you on page one for all your keywords in 2 months for the low, low prices of £500.”
However, I believe that the people with these conceptions of how SEO should work on their site are often the worst clients and thus the best thing to do is not work with them.
